What to expect at Bikás park

Bikás park is a district-level public park in Budapest’s XI District, Újbuda. Its plan was prepared by Lakóterv in 1972, and the park and its hill were developed between 1974 and 1979 on the former parade ground of the Kelenföld housing estate, alongside construction of the surrounding residential area.

Today, the park combines open space and paths with recreational facilities, shaded benches, a pond and a hill that gives the grounds a distinct landmark.

From Classic Hotel, Bikás park is about 1.6 km away, making it a nearby option for a walk or outdoor break. The M4 metro station at the park also connects the surrounding residential area directly to central Budapest.

The hill is home to Monda, a sculpture group by István Kiss depicting three Hungarian grey bulls. The work has stood there since 1980, and it gives the park its name.

Its original composition included symbols of the Sun, Moon and stars between the bulls’ horns; those ornaments were restored when the sculpture was restored in 2020. If you visit the hill, look for the group as one of the park’s notable outdoor features.

Getting to Bikás park from the hotel area

The M4 station is a practical arrival point if you’re coming by metro. The line runs between Kelenföld vasútállomás and Keleti pályaudvar, stopping at Bikás park along the way.

An underground passage at the station connects to pedestrian surfaces in every direction, so you can reach the surrounding area on foot without treating the station entrance as the only approach.

The station has four escalators and two lifts. If step-free access matters for your route, the lifts are a useful station feature to note. You can read more about the line and its place in the city network in this Budapest metro guide. Check the official site before you go for current transport information.

The park’s recreational facilities include walking paths, shaded benches, a running track, an adult outdoor exercise area, sports courts and a children’s playground. That mix lets you shape a visit around a stroll, a place to sit, or time outdoors with sports or play in mind.

The park’s artificial biotope pond is another feature to look for: Újbuda’s district guide says its water quality is maintained without chemicals or mechanical equipment.

There are a few details to keep in mind as you move through the grounds. Bikás Hill’s slopes are used for sledding in winter, so the hill takes on a different role in colder weather.

And if you’re walking with a dog, the fenced dog runs are on the Tétényi út side of the park, with separate areas for small and large dogs.

A multi-purpose drinking fountain beside the metro stop provides drinking water, a dog bowl and a bottle-filling facility. It can be a useful stop near the station, while the park’s shaded benches offer places to pause along the paths.

Facilities and accessibility to check

The district lists both the playground and a toilet at the park service building among its monitored public-space locations. It also lists the fenced dog runs on the Tétényi út side. These facilities are spread across different parts of the park, so consider where you’re entering and what you want to use before setting off across the grounds.

Bikás park also hosts recurring free outdoor cinema screenings in August. The community-budget program describes them as part of a seasonal schedule running from spring to early autumn. Treat that as a general pattern rather than a promise of a particular screening: the program’s specific arrangements may vary.

Pair the park with another nearby stop

For a straightforward visit, arrive at the M4 station, take a walk through the park, and leave time to see Monda on the hill or pause by the pond.

If you’re using the running track, outdoor exercise area or sports courts, you can make those the focus instead. The park’s combination of paths, play areas and open-air facilities gives you several ways to spend time there without needing to plan a long list of stops.

To connect the park with a wider city outing, use the M4 to continue towards central Budapest or build a broader route around the area with this one-day Budapest itinerary. The metro also runs in the opposite direction to Kelenföld vasútállomás, so the station offers a clear onward connection either way.
